Hit-frequency guide

Slot hit frequency explained: what the percentage does and does not mean.

Hit frequency is a provider-published measure of how often a game version records a qualifying payout. It does not predict the next spin or show how often a return beats the stake.

Use only a figure published for the named game and configuration.
Treat a counted hit as a qualifying payout, not proof that the round returned more than the stake.
Keep overall hit frequency separate from RTP, volatility, maximum win, and feature-trigger rates.

How to compare this group

Use only a figure published for the named game and configuration.

Keep overall hit frequency separate from RTP, volatility, maximum win, and feature-trigger rates.
Never use the percentage as a schedule for the next result or as a short-session forecast.

What hit frequency means in a slot

Hit frequency, sometimes labelled hit rate, describes how often a game records a qualifying payout under the provider's rules. A published 20% figure is a mathematical characteristic of that game version, not a promise that exactly one in every five spins will pay.

The definition and configuration matter. Use the provider's figure only for the named version, and check the live information screen if the game can be supplied with different settings.

A hit is not always a profit

A payout can count as a hit even when it is equal to or smaller than the amount played. The UK Gambling Commission's product-design rules explicitly separate returns that are less than or equal to the stake from genuine wins for celebration purposes.

That is why hit frequency cannot answer how often a spin finishes in profit. The safest wording is qualifying payout frequency unless the game rules publish a narrower definition.

Hit frequency, RTP, and volatility are separate

Hit frequency describes how often qualifying payouts occur. RTP describes the theoretical long-run share returned as prizes, while volatility describes how unevenly results are distributed between smaller and larger outcomes.

A game can publish a higher hit frequency without publishing a higher RTP, gentler volatility, or larger maximum win. No one measure can be calculated reliably from another.

Overall hit rate and feature frequency are not interchangeable

An overall hit-frequency figure normally covers qualifying payouts across the game. A free-spins trigger rate, jackpot frequency, or bonus-feature probability measures a narrower event and should remain labelled separately.

Compare the six published overall figures in the table, then open each named review for the exact grid, feature route, volatility, RTP, and maximum-win context. Do not substitute a feature-trigger estimate when the provider does not publish an overall value.

Random results do not follow a hit schedule

Regulated random games must produce outcomes that are acceptably random and unpredictable. A run without a payout does not make a hit due, and a recent payout does not reduce the chance by completing a quota.

Use hit frequency to compare published game mathematics, not to time spins or predict a short session. Actual results can cluster above or below the long-run figure.

FAQ

What is slot hit frequency?

It is the provider-published frequency at which a game version records a qualifying payout under its rules. It is a long-run mathematical measure, not a spin-by-spin schedule.

Does a hit mean the spin made a profit?

Not necessarily. A payout equal to or below the stake can still be counted, so hit frequency does not show how often a round finishes in profit.

Is a higher hit frequency better than a higher RTP?

They answer different questions. Hit frequency covers how often qualifying payouts occur, while RTP covers the theoretical long-run share returned as prizes.

Can hit frequency predict the next payout?

No. Random outcomes are unpredictable, and short runs can sit well above or below a published long-run frequency.
